You’re not alone. I know I was. I found the Internet to be sorely lacking information about remodeling split-foyers and what is out there isn’t very encouraging. The greatest source of inspiration for me was a book called Split Visions by Robert Gerlohff and Jeremiah Battles. This thirty-five page primer is infused with creative ideas encompassing everything from upgrading an entrance to tweaking the original floor plan, and of particular note are the ‘dos’ and ‘dont’s’ of remodeling a split. After I read it, I found that I looked at my remodeling project with a completely refreshed perspective.

Sorry about your comment being invisible for a time, Deloris. I’m still getting some of the colors worked out in my css.
Btw, thank you very much. I hope the book helps. I’m finding that a lot of people are really stumped when it comes to remodeling and adding on to splits. I don’t feel so bad now.
